Marcha de Mujeres en Turquía: "Sin Prohibiciones, Palizas ni Violencia Policial"

On International Women’s Day, Amnesty International is calling on the Turkish authorities to ensure that women’s rights activists can march without fear of bans, beatings and other police violence.

The annual march, which takes place on 8 March, is a key event in the struggle for women’s rights in Turkey. However, in recent years, the authorities have imposed bans on the march in some cities, while in others, police have used excessive force to disperse peaceful protesters.

In 2020, the march was banned in Istanbul and Ankara, and in 2019, police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters in Istanbul. In 2018, police used excessive force to disperse protesters in Ankara.

The organization is also calling on the authorities to ensure that women’s rights activists are able to exercise their right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression without fear of reprisals.
