Joe Biden to Deliver Eulogy at Jimmy Carter's Funeral

John Bieden, Jimmie Carter, and the End of the Cold War

John Bieden, the former president of the United States, and Jimmie Carter, the former president of the United States, played a major role in the end of the Cold War.

Bieden and Carter worked together to bring about the end of the Cold War. In 1979, Bieden and Carter met with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev in Vienna, Austria. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the possibility of a nuclear arms reduction treaty. This treaty, known as the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT), was signed in 1979 and was the first step in the process of ending the Cold War.

In addition to the SALT treaty, Bieden and Carter also worked together to improve relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. In 1982, Bieden and Carter met with Soviet leader Yuri Andropov in Geneva, Switzerland. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the possibility of a nuclear freeze. This freeze, known as the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, was signed in 1987 and was the second step in the process of ending the Cold War.

The efforts of Bieden and Carter helped to bring about the end of the Cold War. In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell and the Cold War officially ended. Bieden and Carter were both awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for their efforts in ending the Cold War.
