Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan Stabbed During Attempted Burglary in Mumbai
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed outside his residence in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra neighborhood during an attempted burglary in the early hours of Thursday, according to Indian media reports. He is currently hospitalized and undergoing treatment, with doctors confirming he is on the path to recovery.
Actor Out of Danger
Mumbai police reassured the public about Khan’s condition. “He is being treated… and is out of danger,” senior police officer Dikshit Gedam told Reuters. Doctors treating Khan echoed this sentiment, describing his condition as stable and improving.
“He sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine. Surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair the leaking spinal fluid,” explained Dr. Nitin Dange, one of the doctors involved in the operation. The 54-year-old actor also sustained injuries to his neck, spine, and hand.
Incident Details
The attack occurred just after midnight when Khan confronted an intruder attempting to enter his apartment via a fire escape. The suspect, believed to be a burglar, also attacked a female employee at the residence. She is currently receiving treatment for her injuries, according to police.
Authorities have identified the perpetrator and launched a search operation. “It appears to be a robbery attempt,” Gedam stated.
Family Statements
The Pataudi family issued an official statement through Filmfare, confirming the attack. “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in the hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter, and we will keep you updated.”
Khan’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, also addressed the situation via her team. “Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is undergoing a procedure. The rest of the family is fine. We request media and fans to avoid speculation as investigations are underway. Thank you for your concern.”
Medical Update
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer of Lilavati Hospital, shared further details. Khan sustained six stab wounds, two of which were deep. A foreign object was discovered near his spine, requiring specialized care. Khan was admitted to the hospital at 3:30 am, and doctors have confirmed that his spine and vital organs were not critically affected.
Reactions and Calls for Security
The incident has sparked outrage and demands for better security in Mumbai. Clyde Crasto, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party, questioned the safety of ordinary citizens if high-profile individuals could face such attacks.
Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt also voiced concerns, calling for increased police presence in Bandra. “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, has never felt so unsafe before,” she remarked on social media.
Looking Ahead
As investigations continue, authorities have promised swift action. Fans and colleagues from the film industry have sent their wishes for Khan’s speedy recovery while urging improved safety measures across Mumbai.
